Ignite3 is a six-week (K-6) summer learning program in the Pembina Trails School Division. It is designed to create learning opportunities that complement and extend experiences occurring throughout the school year while providing equity in educational opportunity. Children take part in a variety of activities designed to strengthen their literacy and numeracy skills along with problem solving and language acquisition. Instructors deliver academic activities in the morning and provide physical activity and student experiences in the afternoon. Inclusivity is at the heart of our schools vision, mission and collective commitment. We begin with the premise that everyone in the school – students, teachers, support staff and parents – should feel that they belong, realize their potential, and contribute to the life of the school. Diverse experiences, perspectives and gifts are embraced.

Why Does Our Summer Learning Program Matter?
Our summer learning program ensures that educational outcomes are not the result of differences in income and accessibility. Our model and its implementation has a direct impact on the students, parents and staff of site schools. Literacy and numeracy data that has been tracked over the last several years has indicated that approximately 75% of program students have maintained or increased decoding and comprehension skills as indicated by their pre and post F&P scores. Numeracy data parallels this progress.
